Touchscreens – The new computer interface

I am surprised by all of the technology that is coming out. It is interesting to me, that we are still living in the stone ages though. I mean, think about it… Processor speeds grow at a nearly exponential rate, memory is growing just as fast, hard drive sizes are as well. With all of these advances, do we still use the arcane method of a mouse and keyboard. Sure, the have finally started adding finger print scanners to laptops to use instead of passwords, but there is a serious lack of innovation when it comes to user input. (more…)

Against all odds

“The house always wins.” or so everyone says. But in this case, everyone is wrong. The Caesar in Indiana had a big problem where the players took the house. This story at Yahoo, “Is winning on a faulty slot machine [a] crime?” talks about this. I have found it interesting that all of a sudden when the house starts to loose, then they go after everyone that has won. (more…)

Fighting Spam

I started having a lot of troubles with my mail server when it started getting spammed pretty bad. I have
Postfix using Amavis to push the email through ClamAV and SpamAssasin. My server was brought to it’s knees. It was running at 98-99% processor load and it would take hours for email to go through. So here is what I did to fix the problem: (more…)

The Adventures of Dixon Hill

In high school, my group of friends and I decided to start a “company” to take care of all of our group projects. We called the “company” Nikk’s Basement Productions (In honor of the location all the work was done). We called it a company, but it was mostly for the fun of it. We compiled several projects and spent a lot of late nights in Nikk’s basement working on these projects. (more…)

Being a programmer that works on our clients websites, my eyes have been opened to the fact that there are some really BAD programmers out there. A current project that I have been working on is a total mess. Our customer outsourced the programming to some company in Russia. This company never finished the project and so our customer contacted my company in hopes we could complete the project. (more…)
