A brilliant idea! Now you can quickly and easily accept credit cards from your iPhone. All you need is the card reader, and you are ready to go. Squareup.com provides these reader free of charge (at least for now) and simply charge $.50 and 3% per swipe. Not the cheapest in the world, but about the same price as PayPal. I hope I get into the beta test soon. I can’t wait to try it out.

Stargate Universe: Life

I got to watch Stargate Universe’s latest episode called “Life”. I was quite excited for it since last weeks episode “Time” seemed to return to the roots of what Stargate is in my mind. Sadly, this one went right back to the slow moving way that Stargate Universe has seemed to be going. This episode also introduced even more of the unneeded sexual innuendo (Some of which is implied A LOT). I am starting to think that it is time to give up on this series.

So I have found that Wordpress has a special app that allows me to update my posts directly from my phone. As a result, I hope that the updates come a little more frequently than they have in the past.

Stargate Universe

Stargate’s newest series has come out. Stargate Universe has been running now for a month or so. Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are some of my most favorite TV shows, I am still not quite sure how I feel about this latest incarnation. I am not pleased with the large amount of sexual innuendo and the story is starting to stagnate. There is a very unnerving amount of episodes that are “We are in trouble, the ship gives us a planet, we have a hard time finding what we need. But, we find what we need right at the last moment and make it back in time to the ship.”

There is a bad precedent starting that I hope soon changes. One character that I am really starting to like is Dr. Rush’s character. He has been really a good addition to the crew of the Destiny. I hope his character keeps growing and expanding.

Super Mario Bros. Wii

The next Super Mario Brothers has been announced. The graphics are as fancy as Mario Galaxy (and it is only a 2D game) but man it looks like it is going to be a fun one. It looks like up to four players can play cooperatively. I can’t wait!!!

The Death of Rick Sobo

So the wonderful group of friends that I have are an enjoyable group. One of my friends since high school, none other than the famous Nikk Bobo wrote a short story entitled “The Death of Rick Sobo” The story is completely and entirely hilarious. In our singles ward about five years ago we decided to have an Oscar night. We decided that we would make an adaptation of the story. The following is the results. I know the acting is horrible, granted, my friend TJ does an amazing job as the evil Garth. The special effects are bad as well. I hope you enjoy the movie as much as I do.

Google Voice

After several months of waiting I finally got my Google Voice account! It is a very similar product to what I am working on and allows me to see more of what our competitors are doing. Very cool stuff! And lots of fun building these kinds of apps. Try it out if you would like there is a widget on the right hand side of my blog that will connect us through Google Voice (It even transcribes everything so I can search it later… Very COOL!)

Being as how I ride the bus all the time, I get to sit by a wide variety of people. These people have a wide variety of thoughts and beliefs. I have found it very interesting to sit by certain people that are known as “conspiracy theorists.” One in particular caught me attention a few days ago. He kept talking about how Social Security numbers are the sign of the beast mentioned in the Bible. Really? Last time I checked there were several aspects to the sign of the beast that don’t match Social Security numbers. Such as Revelations 11:13 that talks about not being able to buy or sell unless a person were to use that number, well, sorry last time I checked, I can buy (and sell) stuff with out using my Social Security number, Sorry dude, don’t think it’s that one. It really is interesting to talk to these kinds of people. Do you have any fun stories about talking to someone like this? Let me know.

Jumping over dollars to save pennies

I have never understood the mentality that a lot of people seem to take. They take a stance of jumping over dollars to save pennies. I saw this when I worked for Subway, owners would complain about giving out coupons, when time after time having coupons continuously showed that sales went up, therefore the store would make more money. Now I get to deal with this with another former employer. I have had colocation for more than a year now at the same place, in fact I have 3 servers that are at day 408 for uptime.

Since I found a new job that would pay me nearly double, my “employee discount” was taken away (without notifying me, which is a whole other topic of discussion) and now that I am calling them trying to get any kind of discount, you would think a loyal customer of more that a year would get some kind of discount, even if it were 10% (even the competition is saying that they can beat them by at least 10%. So instead of giving me a discount, since I was a good employee (maybe they feel like I left them hanging… Which in someways I did, but I gave them 4 months notice, guess what guys, you have to pay programmers what they are worth) and a faithful bill paying customer, that they would give a dicount right. Nope, got to charge full price so we don’t lose any money!

What happens when you lose the customer entirely? Is that worth saving a few bucks. In my book it’s not. But, I guess to each his own, good luck… Hope you don’t lose more customers, but if you treat other customers the way you treated me…. Then they are going to be suffering pretty bad soon.
