I’ll still include a few programming things here and there, but I am planning to share my adventures in fish, fish tanks, aquaponics and green house growing. I hope that I can share some information about how to be a little more self sufficient, even though sometimes I wonder if this all make me more self sufficient or just plain crazy…. I suppose time will tell.

I could easily speculate at the reason for this increase. But that isn’t what I want to talk about. What I want to talk about is the creation of jobs. I find it quite interesting that the way they judge if the job market is doing well or not is by looking at the basic number of jobs created. President Obama is being praised for creating so many jobs, but as I look at it we need to do more than just that. We need to look at the quality of jobs being created.

Sure we might have created several hundred thousand jobs. But they are all blur collar hard labor low paying jobs. We need to be competing with the rest of the world at a much stronger level. But no! All our hard earned tax dollars need to build better roads rather than putting the money to better tasks. Why aren’t we competing at a level on par with the rest of the world? Let’s put aside political agendas and power struggles and solve these problems. Let’s create some jobs that can really elevate those around us. We don’t need to take advantage of each other in order to have the things we want and need. (unless we want to take advantage of other people.)

The symptom: A clients flash game site for children would act like the user was not logged in, even when we just barely logged into the site. (Specifically in Internet Explorer.)

The issue: Turns out that in Internet Explorer (6 and 7 did it, this was before 8 was released) flash (Which I might add is horrible!!!) has a problem with caching XML in combination with an SSL certificate. As a result, it would blow up in our faces.

The solution: Add headers to the code, that tell Internet Explorer to NOT cache the xml. Seems so simple, but once again, the geniuses in Redmond Washington and at Adobe show their mind numbing brilliance.

BATTERED CHICKEN:

2 lbs. boneless chicken pieces, skinned

1 egg

1 1/2 teas. salt

white pepper

oil (for frying)

1/2 cup plus 1 Tbl. cornstarch

1/4 cup flour

1 Tbl. minced ginger root

1 teas. minced garlic

dash crushed hot red chiles

1/4 cup chopped green onions

1 Tbl. rice wine

1/4 cup water

1/2 to 1 teas. sesame oil

ORANGE SAUCE FOR STIR FRY:

2 teas. Minced zest and

1/4 c Juice from

1 lg Orange

1/2 teas. Sugar

2 Tbl. Chicken stock

1 Tbl. Light soy sauce

Combine all ingredients in small bowl and set aside.

Cut chicken pieces in 2″ squares and place in large bowl. Stir in egg,

salt, pepper, and 1 T oil and mix well. Stir cornstarch and flour

together. Add chicken pieces, stirring to coat.

Heat oil for deep−frying in wok or deep−fryer to 375. Add chicken pieces,

a small batch at time, and fry 3 to 4 minutes or until golden and crisp.

(Do not overcook or chicken will be tough.) Remove chicken from oil with

slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Set aside.

Clean wok and heat 15 seconds over high heat. Add 1 T oil. Add ginger

and garlic and stir−fry until fragrant. Add and stir−fry crushed chiles

and green onions. Add rice wine and stir 3 seconds. Add Orange Sauce

and bring to boil. Add cooked chicken, stirring until well mixed.

Stir water into remaining 1 T cornstarch until smooth.

Add to chicken and heat until sauce is thick. Stir in 1 teas. sesame oil.

There is a bad precedent starting that I hope soon changes. One character that I am really starting to like is Dr. Rush’s character. He has been really a good addition to the crew of the Destiny. I hope his character keeps growing and expanding.
